Flowers are not my usual choice of illustrated subject. For some reason I find them intimidating. Still, I looked fear in the face and lassoed afew minutes to draw this 'Gladiolus' for my Opa. They are his favourite. In his younger days Opa was a magnificent gardener, with green-fingered abilities that makes me hope it's a late-developing gene that I will have inherited. I'm still waiting for it to reveal itself!
Opa won county awards for his gardens, and I won the family award for most unsuccessful attempt to grow a sunflower when I was about 10. Let's just say, there is room for improvement...
You need fear flowers no more - this one is splendid! nancy
ReplyDeleteFlowers are so delicate, detailed, complex... much more than faces!
ReplyDeleteYour glads just sparkle! Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful illustration yet again! :) You're right. Spring never seem like it wants to come... you get sun for a while and it gets tad warmer...and then COLD!!!! Must like Fall again.
ReplyDeleteIt's been one of the coldest seasons in Louisiana, and frankly speaking... I quite like it despite the fact that everyone else here absolutely dread it ^^
Maybe your gift will be to the draw-er of flowers! This one is certainly magnificent!
ReplyDeleteWell you may not be able to grow them but you certainly can draw them!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for spring too, March is IT!!!
What a lovely image!
ReplyDeletespring is coming!!!:D
Love your glads - and the typewriter too. Wait for midlife for the gardening - I am 43 and have just discovered it (after years of being completely uninterested) - last year felt like hard work because there's so much to learn but this year I am so excited watching my seeds germinate, and getting the beds ready for veg. I will have a riot of colour come June and veg all summer :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done! I find your style delightful and very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteLouise - You did a wonderful job on the flowers. I like the pen work that you added in. You should do more flowers.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful. Very nice of you to do them for your Opa. I really enjoy your blog, I like your style of drawing and painting. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have a black thumb, too, but I love flowers. That being said, this is oooooohhh so very pretty! Beautifully done. You need to do more.
